San Antonio, Texas. Ford Engineering, Inc., owned and operated by Edwin and Regina Ford, has been awarded first place in the 2004 Engineering Excellence Awards competition held by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies (TCEC). Ford's entry titled "Mapping A City Through Technology" garners the award for Ford for the second year in a row.
The award submittal was based on the collaborative efforts between Ford Engineering, Inc. and the City of Schertz, Texas and how they joined forces to integrate 26 years of all-inclusive municipal, civil, and surveying projects into one dynamic database utilizing GIS.
The submittal further outlines Ford Engineering Inc.'s involvement as city engineers for the City of Schertz, Texas, for the past 26 years and the impact that geographic data can have on planning for the future of city management. The firm (specializing in engineering, surveying, and planning services) made it a point over the years to systematically integrate engineering features into survey mapping by using standardized procedures & computations, and by using precise instrumentation (utilizing GPS & conventional methods), to accurately locate, define, and chart geographic features while conducting routine field surveys. Today this repository of surveying and engineering data has been interfaced with GIS for integrating and accessing considerable amounts of location-based information in the name of city planning and public safety.
The Engineering Excellence Awards Competition has been held by the Texas Council of Engineering Companies since its inception in 1975 to honor and recognize outstanding achievements within the engineering community.
The distinguished panel of judges from around the state selected ten winning projects along with a few honorable mentions from a broad field based on uniqueness, originality, technical complexity, value to the engineering profession, and impact on economic resourcefulness and social contribution to the community.
Ford Engineering, Inc., along with the other award recipients will be honored at the Texas Council of Engineering Companies' 2004 Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet to be hosted at the Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas on March 26th, 2004.
